Ar-15 Gas Piston Conversion Kit.

Makes Rifle Run Cooler & Cleaner With Less Felt Recoil

Kit has everything you need to replace the standard gas system in your AR-15 and convert it to a reliable, positive-cycling, gas piston system. Eliminates venting of hot gases and powder residue into the bolt carrier and receiver for reduced fouling and less wear on the action. Feeds more smoothly, maintenance is easier, and the gun runs cooler, too. Short-stroke piston shaft eliminates concussive gas expansion in the upper receiver for less violent cycling and reduced felt recoil. Easy to adjust for three levels of gas release: normal fire, firing with a suppressor attached, or a single round fired without cycling. Picatinny rail on the gas block provides mounting space for a variety of front sights. Installation requires removal of original gas block, but no permanent alterations to barrel or upper receiver. Remove the piston system at any time and reinstall the original parts. Replacement handguard provides extra internal clearance for piston rod and has internal shield to protect your hand from heat buildup during sustained fire. Separate models for three popular gas system lengths:Carbine, Mid-Length, and Rifle. Pistol kit comes with a Samson 4" Free Float rail.

Ok I did a review for this after I tried it on my 300AAC, and wasn't happy with it at all. I have now been able to make time to install it on my 5.56 carbine, it does work, but there are still several things that I am less than happy with. The bolt carrier is still loose and sloppy in my upper receiver, I have tried it in 6 different uppers and it is loose in all of them. The piston rod is to long to get the recommended adjustment without modification. The bushing to drive into the upper receiver is to tight to drive in without drilling the hole larger, I had to drill it out (very carefully) with a 5/16 drill bit, and then was able to drive in the bushing. There are only 3 settings that you can use, 12 o'clock full open, 1 o'clock slightly reduced, 3 o'clock closed. I wish they had the ability for more adjustment, to be able to tune the rifle better. This system does work with a suppressor, and does keep most of the gas out of the system, but there is still lots of gasses coming back to the chamber from the barrel itself. But your bolt does stay cleaner. Bottom line, I will not be buying any more of these for any of my other rifles, and I will not recommend them to anyone who wants to have a rifle built. It is to much money for very little gain, just can't justify the expense for the small benefit. I would simply recommend installing an adjustable gas block.

Very poor quality

First off the bolt carrier is Sloppy, very, very loose fit. Secondly the required adjustment of the piston rod for correct calibration is not possible without almost completely covering the gas port. This is on my 16" HBAR barrel. Third, will not work at all on 300 blackout suppressed carbine. Now that I have already installed on the 300 AAC upper, I need to try to remove the guide bushing that had to be driven into the upper receiver gas tube sleeve. Also replace the gas rings on the bolt. Will not work with your hand guards without highly modifying them, must remove heat shield and cut front and rear of the gas tube opening notch out very large. Does come with standard round mil spec modified guards, no heat shield in top guard.I have not attempted to install on 5.56 carbine yet.

Not sure about this

First off the description needs to state that you will need to purchase a complete bolt, cam pin, firing pin, and cotter pin if you are doing this for a new build. one step of the installation requires installing a bushing into the gas port on the upper receiver. even with grease on the bushing it took 30 minutes of teeth jarring white knuckle hammering. the install tool belled out and was useless. now I have a bushing only 80% installed.....I laughed at the dvd when it said you may need to lock tite this bushing into place if it is loose. the rest of the kit looks great and I'm sure it works well, but I will stick with DI systems because they work and have worked fine all these years

Works just like they say it will.

The gun runs cooler and cleaner. After a mag dump I was able to grab the bolt carrier and was still as cool as a cucumber. Great product.

Top Notch Conversion Kit

This is a "must have" conversion kit for any direct gas impingement system. This system will greatly reduce any chamber caking and make cleaning your AR a breeze. It's easy to install, with no gunsmithing involved and comes with an easy to follow instructional video. Piston systems are the future, so embrace it now before the prices go up even more!

Perfect piston kit for the AR-15

I installed this kit on my bushmaster Carbon 15 M-4. I was amazed how easy this install was. Only thing different is that the bushing that is installed in the upper is not needed because there is a metal bushing molded into the composite frame with the same I.D. as the bushing. After installing I went to the range and shot about 100 rounds with no issues at all! Flawless! I was surprised how cool my AR was. Every AR should have this kit.

Great Kit

So far I only have a few hundred rounds through the conversion kit. Installation couldn't have been much easier, so don't be intimidated if you're not an armorer. However, rather than trying to visually align the gas block (as instructed), I'd suggest laying the upper upside-down on a flat, level work surface to help you level the gas block with the flat top upper receiver. You can tighten in place, then check alignment and spacing. I found the system to be as advertised. Easy to install, runs clean and cool. It also seems to soften the recoil impulse slightly. Probably because you've just added two springs to the recoil cycle. Overall, very pleased with the kit so far. Definately valuable for shooters who run SBRs, suppressors and/or extended full-auto fire. Oh, and I didn't notice any appreciable weight difference or added swing-weight as direct impingement worshipers suggest.

AAA+

Installed on my LMT upper. I just ran about 300 rounds through my AA equipted carbine without any problems. 10 minute cleanup. A great add on for an AR system! Now I've got to get two more to install. I'm sold on this system.

It's a No Doubter!

Unbelievable product! I installed in on my S&W MP15, 5.45 carbine in about an hour. I was hesitant at first. I'm no gunsmith; in fact I'd never seen a front sight/gas block removed. But the process could not have gone smoother. The You Tube instructional video made it easy also. Followed the instructions, and it works flawlessly! I added the Talon muzzle break at the same time… and OMG they took a smooth AR and made into a dream gun. I swear my paintball gun has more kick & rise than my gas piston AR! Great Product!

Great Product

I just put this on my Bushmaster 16" M4 and absolutely love it. Ran like a champ and after 500 rounds I was able to wipe everything off with a cloth and have it clean in 10 minutes. I am going to recommend this kit to all my friends. Great buy!!!

No other piston kit comes close

I own 2 of these kits both on carbines. These kits more than live up to their reputation and pricing. I have owned a few other piston kits and this is as close as you can get to buying a factory high dollar piston gun like all those L acronyms. I run them almost exclusivly suppressed and full auto. I have had zero malfunctions to date do to the piston kit. NO misses in timing or bolot bounce and now after 20k rounds out of both I wish I would have done the conversion when I first heard about Adams Arms. Last of all and the main reason for me writing this review is I did a week long bush hunt for hogs early this year. 5 days of rain and untold hours in the mud, I never cleaned or lubed my rifle at all (unless you consider water lube) and on day 7 I shot over 200 rounds to ditch the wet ammo with not a single miss fire. If you are looking to make the AR as reliable as an AK there is no other way in any price range. Building a 3rd Adams Arms gun this month.

Superior Piston, alot better than D.I.

I have this installed on my S&W M&P15. Follow the instructions with attention to detail. So far 500 rounds and no problems. No indication of wear inside the receiver, like other piston kits and the carrier tilt problem. Adams Arms has designed a great piston kit. Rifle runs alot cleaner and shoots smoother. Also a great set up if running a can, the piston has adjustable gas setting. If running a rail system I would suggest the daniel defense 9.5 fsp light rail. The piston housing sits at the same height and almost flush with the rail. "Very easy to install". For the front sight I like MI forearm flip up.The price browells is selling this kit for is a great price. You wont find it cheaper anywhere else.

Hands down, the best.

I have 3 Adams Arms kits. 2 carbine and one rifle. My first is a very low double digit serial number that I purchased directly from Adams Arms. The carbines have thousands of rounds through them. They perform flawlessly. I couldn't be happier with their performance. They have never let me down with hard use. They are the simplest system on the market. Less pieces = less broken pieces. They offer a lifetime guarantee and are great people to talk to. When the carbine systems are back in stock, I will buy another. The new price is a lot less than I paid for my earlier systems. I would still buy them at the original price of [$] plus another $175 for a bolt carrier.

Snapped pistons

I have snapped 3 pistons and have sent my upper to Adams Arms twice so they could inspect and install. Still chews up the entire receiver and CH even with one piece bolt carrier.

Best gas piston set up made.

I own currently (6) AR-15s and have built several hundred of them in the last 15 years. I have installed 4 CMMG Kits that I purchased from Brownells and was happy with them, although the enclosed piston design is not as easy to clean and requires a chamber brush. I then purchased an Adams Arms kit for my personal 6.8 SPC upper build and wish I had never purchased the CMMG kits. The Adams Arms kit is hands down a better system, to install, use and to run, [...] The AR system is very reliable when dirty as long as you run it very wet so it shucks the fouling. The AR is very hard to clean, no matter what you do with it. I do not like to have oil dripping out of my weapon and spraying all over my face and protective eye wear while shooting. An average AR-15 will go through 10 thirty round magazines normally with no hickups, and some people say a Gas piston is not needed, as most SF guys who get into fire fights don't go through that many rounds. (My Friend on CERT at San Quintin Prison in CA. While at the operator academy went through over 3,000 rounds in over a weeks time) with virtually no malfunctions to speak of and he does not think the gas piston is worth the weight addition) Personally I do not like to spend hours cleaning weapons after use. I much prefer the wipe it down, bore snake it and oil it that I do not to the scraping caked on carbon and fowling out of the weapons recesses and upper. Now I just wipe it out with a brush to get rid of the brass flakes, wipe out the carbon from the ejection process and oil it up and put it back together. The other benefit to the Adams Arms gas piston set up is the lack of super heating and cooling cycles on the internal parts This has got to account for less stress on the entire weapon system and longevity of parts and over all reliability. The SAMSON rail setup for gas pistons is really nice too, as they come with heli coils and are very light to boot. Hope this helps. [@]

if you have an ar you need this

i have two of these systems one on a carbine one on a rifle. this system is great. when first installed i ran over 1500 rounds through my carbine without a failure and no lubrication on the moving parts of the weapon. the ammunition used varied some of it was in my cargo pocket from katrina and was green with corrosion. the other ammunition varied from mil-spec to gunshow reloads. after 8 years in the army and owning ar type rifles for over 20 years, i have never had a easier time cleaning an ar. it was cleaned with one paper towel and a boresnake the time was less than 5 minutes. while at the range i loaded up ten 30 round p-mags and did a rapid fire dump of ammunition. immediatly upon completion i removed the bolt carrier group from the upper reciever and it was cool enough to handle with my bare hands. the installation was straight forward and simple to perform with household type tools. adams arms has hit a home run with this kit. if you are looking for a any time anywhere ar-15, you need this kit!!!
